Van Johnson

Van Johnson was an American film and television actor and dancer who passed away at the age of 92 due to natural causes. He is best known for his movies "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo," "A Guy Named Joe" and "The Caine Mutiny."
Born 1916 in Newport, Rhode Island, Johnson's Broadway debut was in 1936 in "New Faces" and four years later he played the role of a college boy in the Rodgers and Hart's "Too Many Girls" film. After several other movies he appeared as Ted Lawson in "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo" in 1944. In 1945, Johnson tied with Bing Crosby as the top of a list of box office stars chosen yearly by the National Association of Theater Owners. In 1953 he starred along with Esther Williams in the movie, “Easy to Love.” The next year he starred in “The Caine Mutiny.” Later in his career, he played the lead in the television miniseries “Rich Man, Poor Man” in 1976 and was nominated for a prime time Emmy Award for that role. His last film was “Clowning Around” in 1991.
